Dr Dental Insurance on Senior Dental Care, Seeing your dentist Regularly.
Seniors may need to see the dentist more then just twice a year for oral health check ups? Tooth decay can be more frequent in seniors. Adults are also more likely to have tooth decay around older fillings if not regularly checked by a dentist. Though fluoride in community water supplies may be common, that was not always the case for some of the older seniors.
Cavities in the tooth root are more common in seniors due to receding gums lines. Receding gums exposes more of the tooth root surface to decay. Seniors also can have dry mouth due to either age or different medications they may have to take. Dry mouth can lead to a higher risk of tooth decay because without an adequate amount of saliva the acids produced by plaque can not be neutralized
Many seniors often put off their dental care needs due to reasons such as not having transportation, No dental insurance, other health issues that keeps them from seeing a dentist and cost for dental services.
A way to address these issues: Check to see if there any available ride care services for seniors. Buy dental insurance so that cost for dental services can be more affordable. If there are other health issues keeping you way from a dentist that can be more difficult to address. (There are some dentist that are willing to make house calls when nessary). However having other health issues can make it even more important to see a dentist regularly.
